PURPOSE:To perform precise quantization by the quantization system of facsimile equipment even when an original is different in texture by setting a slice level for the quantization on the basis of a signal level obtained from the set original. CONSTITUTION:Analog signal 7 from the photoelectric converter is inputted peak follower A for detection of original 1 and a width detection signal is generated by comparator B, width detecting circuit C and width determining circuit D for original 1 and inputted to gate E. Analog signal 7 gated by gate E is inputted to peak follower F for picture information decision to detect a maximum white level signal within the original width and the slice level of comparator G for quantization is obtained. As before, the slice level for the quantization is determined on the basis of the maximum white level in reflected light from the original surface, so that even when original 1 changed in texture, accurate picture information can be generated. |
