Welding powder which includes iron oxides and deoxidants - so process consists of mixt. of submerged arc welding and alumino-thermite welding

The welding powder contains the conventional constituents, but also 7% min. of iron oxides, and deoxidants corresp. stoichiometrically with the amt. of iron oxides and consisting of min. 0.5%. With conventional welding powders, both the permissible electric current and the welding speed are limited; and the object of the invention is to increase the welding speed while also increasing the notch impact toughness of the deposited weld metal. The new powder mixt. can be used as an agglomerate or pellets, and produces finer metal drops in the arc; a stable arc; and also reduces the number of notches and slag inclusions in the welds.
