Filled pigmented paper impregnated with self crosslinking acrylic! est - from aq. dispersion, has high water resistance and printability

Synthetic paper consists of a web of impregnated paper contg. pigments and fillers and having high resistance to water, light- fastness and printability. The web of paper consists mainly of long-fibre cellulose and is impregnated with an aq. dispersion based on a self-crosslinking acrylic ester (I). Pref. the web contains 0.5-30 (15-25)% plastics (polyester) fibres and is impregnated with a 30-60 wt.% (I) dispersion contg. 1-20 wt.% aminoplastics to give 15-40 wt.% plastics w.r.t. the paper. The impregnating soln. can also contain 2-10 wt.% water-soluble F cpds. and an (in)organic lubricant (1-10 wt.% water-emulsifable wax or a salt of an organic fatty acid deriv.). The paper is (hot) calendered. The paper also has very high (tear) strength, crease resistance, embossability, flexibility and dimensional stability. It can be made on a conventional paper machine.
