Along and outside a conveyor belt 3 in a timber-sorting plant, a light ramp 10 is mounted. This light ramp is connected to a computer 7 which controls lamps entering the light ramp in such a way that the position of a piece of timber 5 moving past on the belt, the quality of which timber is to be assessed, is marked.
