PURPOSE:To readily turn a gate turn-off thyristor off by providing a branching switching element between the gate of the thyristor of front stage and the cathode of the thyristor of the rear stage. CONSTITUTION:The gate turn-off thyristors 1, 2 are turned on by a gate signal from a gate control power source 34 through transformer 36, 37, diodes 38, 39 and switches 40, 41 to the thyristors 1, 2. Then, the switches 40, 41 are opened, a gate signal is fed from the gate control power source 22 through transformers 25, 26, diodes 30, 46 and switch 32, 33 to the thyristors 27, 28, thereby conducting the thyristors 27, 28. Thus, the part of the load current of the thyristor 1, 2 is branched to the thyristor 27 for the thyristor 2 and to the thyristor 28 for the diode 20, thereby turning the thyristors 1, 2 off. Thus, the gate turn-off thyristor can be turned off in the high voltage circuit exactly by the relatively simple circuit. |
