1394971 Separating plastics from waste paper J F LAUNDRIE 30 July 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 36213/73 Heading B2H Thermoplastics material is removed from a mixture of waste paper and thermoplastics film by heating the mixture in a stream of hot gas to cause the film to contract upon itself to form particles and mechanically separating the paper from the thermoplastics particles, e.g. by screening and/or air classification. The mixture may be comminuted prior to heating. As shown, the mixture of waste paper and thermoplastics film is fed by means of a conveyor 11 to a dehydrator 12 supplied at 15 with a hot gas stream from a heater 14. As the mixture is transported by the gas stream, the thermoplastics film contracts upon itself to form particles and the resultant mixture of dried paper and particles is carried in the gas stream through a blower 17 to a cyclone separator 18 where gas and water vapour are separated from the mixture which is then discharged at 21 and transported by a conveyor 24 to an air classifier 23. Air drawn through ducts 25, 25' by a blower 28 carries the lighter waste paper 29 out through an exit duct 26 while the heavier thermoplastics particles 30 gravitate to the bottom of the classifier and are discharged at 27.
|
