PURPOSE:To obtain a large screen display with high reliability, reduced power consumption, and simple drive methods by using an insulating support body consisting of nonalkali glass between a flat surface type electrode and a metal back layer to which acceleration voltage is applied. CONSTITUTION:A flat plate type display unit consists of a picture element and a cathode. The thermoelectrons from the cathode are controlled by the first, second, and third electrodes, 16, 18, and 20 and accelerated by this third electrode 20 and the metal back layer 22 to which high voltage is applied. A picture element 24 is shot from a fluorescent body. An insulating support body 21 with excellent withstand voltage and working characteristics consisting of nonalkali glass of B2O3, SIO2, Al2O3, BaO, and Pbo intervenes between this third electrode 20 and the metal back layer 22. This can obtain the flat plate type display with excellent productivity and reliability and with reduced power consumption, which can use drive circuits (ICs). |
