PURPOSE:To obtain a superior photosensitive material by adding a specified polymer provided with diffusion resistance by incorporating functional groups with high reactivity to one or more layers of a photosensitive material as a mordant, a hardening agent or the like without exerting unfavorable influence on other photographic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A polymer represented by formula I (where A is a copolymerizable ethylenic unsatd. monomer, R is H or 1-6C lower alkyl, L is a 1-20C divalent group, X is an active ester, (x) is 0-95mol%, (y) is 5-100mol% and m is 0 or 1) is added to at least one layer so that a mordant, a hardening agent or other photographic additive is firmly fixed in the desired photographic layer or a photographic material provided with diffusion resistance is obtd. For example, a copolymer of acrylamide and the compound of formula II is added as a hardening agent to give suitable functional groups for each purpose.
