<p>Wire or filament is wound onto a non-rotating mandrel by a flyer, the wire being fed along the rotatinal axis of the flyer, through a rotating radially extending loop and then onto the mandrel. The windings are removed from the mandrel and relatively secured in position by a binder supplied longitudinally of the mandrel from a position within the rotating loop but outside the zone of the flyer. The wire is fed rapidly in a snag-free manner to the binder in a simple appts. which provides good accessibility to the binder. The wire is removed as a helix secured to the binder, e.g. a wire or rod, and is used for heat transmission e.g. by flattening the helix and winding around another surface.</p> |
