The button fastener comprises a head (1), one or more shafts (3), each having a barb (4), a needle-like tip (5), a cone (7) and a break-off point (6). The long needle-like tip is passed from below through the material layer(s) and into a hole (9) of the button. By pulling the tip, the barb passes into button hole, via the cone, where it hooks firmly in the button (10). The head and spacer (11) ensure a firm fastening. The tip and cone can be broken off at the arranged point (6). For a double-shaft fixing the tip can be passed back through a further hole in the button and back to the reverse side of the material.
