The sensor has an array of cylindrical lenses covering the sensing part and storage part of the device. The lenses focus the incident radiation only onto the photosensitive regions of the sensing part. The cylindrical lenses overlap one another to give 'blind' strips between photosensitive regions (also strips). Focussing the incident light in this way increases the sensitivity of the sensor by factor of two.
