A safety cut-out for rotating machinery such as a washing machine, centrifuge, etc., consists of a plunger housed in one or more of the machine feet which is depressed by the weight of the machine. In this position the plunger hinders the movement of a spring-loaded button in a power switch. Damaging vibration of the machine causes the foot to lift from the floor, allowing the plunger to project, releasing the switch button and cutting off the power. The action of the cut-out is non-specific, and is effective with any sort of vibration, whether caused by an unbalanced load, suspension system defects, faulty installation, etc., and can replace a number of specific fault-sensors.
