The exhaust gas recirculation is intended for a motor vehicle reciprocating IC engine, and feeds a part of the exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold back into the intake manifold. The fuel-air mixt. and the recirculated exhaust gas are ducted in separate pipes, opening into the combustion chamber. The recirculation pipe (20) from the exhaust manifold (19) opens into a separate exhaust gas feed pipe (22), which has a considerably larger cross section than both the recirculation pipe and fuel-air mixt. intake pipe (16). Pref. the recirculation pipe opens into a chamber (18) in the cylinder head (13), surrounding the inlet valve (15) set on the side away from the combustion chamber (14).
