PURPOSE:To reduce the sensitivity to corrosion especially to stress corrosion cracking, by the heat treatment of cast stainless steel pipe, which has been machined nearly to final size, to form solid soln. so as to distribute the compression residual stress on the internal and external surfaces of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:In manufacture of a cast stainless steel pipe which is in need of solid soln. heat treatment, the cast steel pipe is machined nearly to the final machining size before the soln. heat treatment, then it is heat treated to form solid soln. Hereby, the level of residual stress value on the internal and external surfaces of cast steel pipe product can be reduced, simultaneously compression residual stress is distributed on the internal surface, hence the surface attains the effective state to reduce compression crrosion cracking. This method is applied to the manufacture of cast stainless steel pipe which is used in an environment where one or both of the internal and external surfaces are exposed to corrosion. |
