The invention comprises phenol substitutes in either the 2- or the 4-position by a pinan-1-yl radical and in at least one other position by a methyl radical, substituents other than pinan-1-yl and methyl being absent; the compounds are made by reacting camphene with an appropriate methyl-substituted phenol, in presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, e.g. SnCl4. Exemplified products have the following structures <FORM:1062252/C2/1>ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions for treating infections caused by pyogenic microorganisms comprise, besides a carrier, a phenol substituted in either the 2- or the 4-position by a pinan-1-yl radical and in at least one other position by a methyl radical, substituents other than pinan-1-yl and methyl being absent; the compounds may be used in the form of skin ointments, percutaneous ointments, suppositories, capsules, alcoholic solutions, suspensions for atomisation, ear drops, tablets and suspensions for intramuscular or subcutoneous injections.
