Error criterion for adaptive data line equaliser - uses magnitude of peak value divided by effective value of signal

The error criterion uses the quotient -- magnitude of peak value divided by effective value of the signal at the output of the filter or a function of the quotient. The signals are digital binary baseband signals in NRZ or RZ form or in pseudoternary form. Only an effective-value meter, e.g thermal device, diode rectified etc. is needed and not a probability meter.
