The rotary potentiometer is adapted to provide a measure of the co-ordinate position of the sliding member. The potentiometer has an outer ring of a constant resistance of 50kOhm/revolution. Eight supply voltages (E0-E7) are provided by resistance networks and operational amplifiers (1-6). The out of phase voltages are Q1=CSinK and Q2=C.C0SK., that generate coil voltages such as:- E1=C.Sin (K-45 deg.) = root 2 (Q1-Q2) /2 The output from either of two oick uo sliders can be related to the position P, by a geometric relationship.
