PURPOSE:To recover the energy stored in the municipal wastes and to extremely reduce the volume occupied by treated wastes, by drying digested sludge discharged from a fermentation process with the sensible heat of carbides discharged from a thermal decomposition process on subjecting the wastes to the thermal decomposition treatment and the fermentation treatment. CONSTITUTION:Municipal wastes are assorted to garbage and organic materials such as plastics, papers. A mixed digestion gas of CH4 and CO2 is recovered from the garbage by the anaerobic fermentation. The organic materials are decomposed to gas and carbides by thermal decomposition. Combustible gas is separated from the gas and refined. A digestion sludge 18 generated during the anaerobic fermentation step and the carbides 15 generated by the thermal decomposition are charged into a drying device 23, where the digestion sludge 18 is dried by the sensible heat of the carbides 15. The mixture 32 is then charged into the second drying device 31, where the digestion sludge is sufficiently dried by the high temp. combustion gas from an incinerator 28. Thereafter, the garbage with the carbides is incinerated in the incinerator 28. The amt. of the final discharge from the incinerator is extremely small, and energy is sufficiently recovered. |
