PURPOSE:An emulsifiable toiletry, e.g. an emulsion having improved emulsion stability, with a slight irritant action on the skin, comprising a specific amount of an emulsifier prepared by mixing a novel branched chain cholesteryl ester of a fatty acid with cholesterol in a specific proportion, an oily component for the toiletry and water. CONSTITUTION:An emulsifiable toiletry, e.g. a cream or emulsion, having improved emulsion stability with a slight irritant action on the skin, and comprising 0.1-30wt%. emulsifier prepared by mixing a novel compound of formula I (R is 11-23C, preferably 13-19C, saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon residue having one or more alkyl substituents from the carboxyl linkage to the center of the main chain) with cholesterol at a weight ratio of 80:20-10:90, preferably 0.1-90wt% oily component for the toiletry, and preferably 1-99wt% water. As for the compound of formula I, a compound in which R is expressed by formula II or III (m+n=14 and has a distribution with the center m=n=7; R1 and R2 are straight or branched chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, and the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 is 12-18, particularly 16 is preferably used.
