Aminosubstituted tetrahydrobenzindoles having the formula

<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>R is H, alkyl or aryl,</ListItem><ListItem>R<Sup>1</Sup> is H or halogen,</ListItem><ListItem>R<Sup>2</Sup> is H, alkyl or aralkyl and</ListItem><ListItem>R<Sup>3</Sup> is H, OH, halogen, C<Sub>1</Sub>-C<Sub>3</Sub> alkyl or alkoxy</ListItem></UnorderedLists>
and a process for preparing them are disclosed. Those compounds have antihypertensive activity.
