1,196,521. Injection moulding. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 10 Jan., 1969 [18 Jan., 1968], No. 2706/68. Heading B5A. Two flanged metal components are joined together by injection moulding plugs 5 of thermoplastic material through aligned holes in the flanges 3, 4, the plugs being interconnected by a fillet 6 of the moulded material. As shown in Fig. 3 two flanges 3, 4 of a petrol pump (Fig. 1, not shown) are placed between dies 7, 8 and a thermoplastic material such as nylon is injected through a sprue 9 to form plugs 5 having moulded heads 5 and joined by a fillet 6 formed in a feed ring 6A. One or both of the flanges may have screw threaded holes so that the moulded plugs may be removed by unscrewing, the connection with the fillet being severed thereby. The fillet may be formed in a runner formed in the mating surface or surfaces of one or both flanges. Figs. 4 to 7 (not shown) illustrate modified plug constructions. |
