A workpiece feeding device for a woodworking machine comprises a movable box-like stand 6 which is adjustable in height and detachably or releasably connectable to a machine and has a work-table 5 with a straight line guide for guidance of the workpieces to the machine, feed rolls 8, 10 with vertical axes acting on one side of the workpiece, and additional feed rolls 9, 11 with vertical axes acting on the other side of the workpiece and driven in the opposite direction but at the same speed as the feed rolls 8, 10. The workpieces may be disposed in a stack in a magazine formed by guide walls 2, 3, 4 and one roll 10, 11 of each pair is associated with the magazine to feed the workpieces successively to the other pair of rolls 8, 9. The rolls are connected by universally jointed shafts to a transmission box and a common infinitely variable speed motor. The roll 11 adjacent the magazine is provided with flats whereby when a lowermost workpiece is removed from the magazine, a flat is parallel to the feed path to permit the next workpiece to fall into the path. The work-table consists of two parts 17a, 17b, each of which carries one pair of the rolls. The part 17b is adjustable relative to the part 17a by a spindle 20 in screwthreaded engagement with a nut 21 on the part 17b to accommodate different widths of workpieces. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), each pair of rolls 30a, 30b and 31a, 31b are driven through friction couplings by a separate feed apparatus 30, 31, apparatus 30 being detachably fixed to the stand in a position above a part 38 of the work-table which carries, below its surface, the apparatus 30 and is adjustable relative to fixed parts 37, 39 of the table transversely of the direction of feed of the workpieces. The workpieces are stacked in a magazine comprising guides 2, 3, 4 and one roll 30b, 31b of each pair has flats 35 to allow the workpieces to fall successively between the rolls and be fed forwardly. Adjustment of the height of the stand is effected by feet at the lower end of vertical spindles received in threaded bushes. |
