The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a chlorine containing aminoanthraquinone, wherein a 1-monoaminoanthraquinone is subjected to the action of chlorine in the presence of N-methyl-pyrrolidone or a carboxylic acid amide of the formula IN WHICH R1 and R2 denote alkyl or cycloalkyl groups of the groups R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom may form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring and R3CO- represents the radical of an aliphatic-carboxylic acid. |
