In a vertical loom having a plurality of shuttles containing weft for one pick crossing the loom simultaneously in sheds of travelling-wave form, each warp thread is shed by an individual pneumatic cylinder, the shuttles are propelled by a travelling magnetic field, and the weft is beaten up by pneumatic cylinders operating a small groups of reed blades. At the input side of the shed a spool previously wound with sufficient weft for one pick is automatically inserted into a shuttle, which is then projected by the piston rod of a pneumatic cylinder into range of the travelling magnetic field. A cap, which is a friction fit on the end of the weft spool, has a projection engaging a notch in the shuttle, it is prevented from rotating and so tensions the weft. |
