PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for a resin, advantageously in high selectivity and yield, by bringing readily available succinic anhydride, into contact with P2O5-B2O3 catalyst in the vapor phase, at a specific temperature to carry out decarbonylation. CONSTITUTION:Succinic anhydride is brought into contact with a solid catalyst consisting of P2O5 and B2O3, in the vapor phase under flowing and decarbonylated, to give the titled acrylic acid. The suitable molar ratio of P2O5 to B2O3 is usually 1:1, and a little change may further improve the conversion and selectivity. For the preparation of a catalyst, boric acid powder is added to 85% phosphoric acid, and fully mixed and solidified. The solid is then dried for one whole day and night at 120 C, ground into 10-20 mesh, and calcined at 500 deg.C in air in use. The selectivity for the acrylic acid generally increases with decreasing reaction temperatures. |
