<p>A shaped, refractory, heat-insulating article is mfd. from particulate refractory material, binder and de-fibred bagsse or like material. The bagasse-like material comprises crushed or broken down stalks of pith-contg. plants from which sap has been extracted or which have been dried. Woods from deciduous trees can also be used. The constituent s are mixed together, put into a former, pressurisd and the binder is caused or allowed to set. Used as slabs for lining the head of a mould for steel ingots. The de-fibred material is highyl porous and of very low bulk density and forms and efficient thermal insulator. Slurry techniques are not used in prodn. of the articles.</p> |
