Dried colostrum - useful as a feed additive to increase wt. gain and appetite

Dry colostrum extract is prepd. yb pasteurising the colostrum, concentrating it to 250-400 g/litre, and dried to 200-250 g/litre of starting material. Colostrum is taken, in the first days following the birth, from ewes, goats, asses, buffaloes and cows, and may be sotred at 0-10 degrees C. It is then pasteurised at 80 degrees C and dehydrated in an evaporator. It may then be dried by lyophilisation ro by inverse osmosis. The products may be subjected to a Maillard reaction, giving a brown colouration caused by the redn. of sugars by amino acids. Product may be treated with additives and vitamins, if desired. Used in feed supplements. Extract increases the rate of wt. gain of mammals, birds, and fish. Extract has particular use in raising calves.
