The use of glycidylammonium salts of formula (I) for treating polyamide fibres in the presence of an acid is claimed, where (I) are used as concentrates or as aq. or aq.-alcoholic solns.: (where R1-R3 are 1-4C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, or R2+R3 is CH2CH2YCH2CH2, where Y is O, S, CH2 or a direct bond, and X is an anion. Treatment of polyamide (e.g. nylon) fibres with (I) increases their affinity for a wide range of dyes not normally used for dyeing polyamides. The specified cpd. (I) is glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTAC). The treatment is pref. effected at ambient or slightly elevated temp. using a soln. of (I) in 10-100% (esp. 50-75%) acetic acid. Subsequent dyeing is pref. effected at ambient temp.
|
