PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of power consumption, by applying the DC pulse voltage of a short duration to the ink within the ink cartidge with every reference time or the reference action and then detecting the presence or absence of the ink from the resistance value. CONSTITUTION:The pulses 6 and 6' having a duration of about 1ms each are applied to the electrodes 4 and 5 of the cartiridge 2 in a serial printer and every time the head prints one line. And based on this resistance variation, the presence or absence of the ink is detected. In this case, the pulse duration 7 is smaller than the pulse interval 6-6', thus reducing the amount of power consumption. |
