Process for the preparation of benzamides

Benzamides of the formula <IMAGE> in which X is halogen, trifluoromethyl or C3-4-alkyl, and Y is hydrogen, halogen or nitro, and N-oxides and acid addition salts thereof have valuable MAO-inhibiting properties and are accordingly particularly suitable for the treatment of depressive states. These compounds are prepared by condensation of N-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine with appropriately substituted benzoic acids or reactive functional derivatives thereof and N-oxidation where appropriate.
