A method for earth-rock probing and rock drilling by a percussion drill, where a thixotropic liquid is used for transporting material loosened by drilling upward out of the drill hole and the liquid is caused to flow down in a vertical channel (5) to flushing channels (12). The liquid according to the invention is supplied at low pressure to a shank adapter (1) via a flushing head (3) including a check valve (4), which prevents return flow. The liquid is caused to flow from the feed channel into a vertical channel (5) communicating with a vertical channel in the drill rod. In the upper portion of the shank adapter a pump piston (6) is provided which is caused to be pressed by said low pressure upward to a position where its upper end projects upward above the upper surface (13) of the shank adapter (1), against which surface the percussion piston (14) of the percussion drill is intended to strike. The percussion piston (14) is caused at strokes against said surface (13) to strike down the pump piston (6), whereby a very strong pressure surge is generated in the liquid enclosed by the check valve (4), which pressure surge advances the liquid through the flushing channels (12).
