An improved bleaching and cleaning composition comprising a percompound and an organic activator therefor having at least one RCON<group in the molecule wherein RCO represents a carboxylic acyl radical, of which the peracid generation and bleaching performance are enhanced by the incorporation therein of a compound selected from the group having the following general formula: <IMAGE> (I) wherein n=1-4; and X=H or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or ammonium cation; <IMAGE> (II) wherein n=0-2; X=H or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or ammonium cation Y=H, CH2COOX or CH2PO3X2 Z=H, CH2COOX or CH2PO3X2 (X=H or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or ammonium cation). <IMAGE> (III) wherein n=1-3; and X=H, an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium cation. |
