The refrigerator comprises a large-volume cabinet (1) with an upper and a lower cooling compartment. At the side of these cooling compartments, a frontally open compartment (20) extends, in which the refrigeration unit (10) is accommodated. The latter rests on a frame (18) which is suitable for front insertion. The compartment (20) moreover carries off upwards through a vent (12) in a chimney-like manner the cooling air which is drawn in frontally by the condenser (11). By these measures, a service-friendly and compact cooling device with optimum cooling-air circulation is achieved. <IMAGE>
