Title compds.[I; R1 =C1-4alkyl; R2 = H, C1-4alkyl; n = 1-3; R = 2-phenylbicyclo(II; R3,R4 = H; Ar = substituted phenyl) useful as antidepressant agents, were prepd. by alkylation of III. Thus, cis-3-aminomethyl-2-(O-chlorophenyl)-bicyclo[2,2,2 octane.HCl(III) was prepd. from cis-O-chlorocinnamo-nitrile as starting material and then III was reacted with NaHCO3 and dimethylformamide to give cis-3-N,N-dimethylaminomethyl-2-(O-chlorophenyl)-2-(O-chlorop- ! henyl)-3-cyanobicyclo[2,2,2 octane.HCl.
