Displacement volume measurement for paw e.g. of rat - uses record of amount of liquid displaced from container into weighed catch tank

The vol. measurement device, e.g. for measuring the vol. displaced by a rat's paw, has a container open at the top filled with a displacement fluid such as tension released water. The liquid level is regulated by a pump controlled by an electrode immersed in the liquid. The container (13) is mounted above a balance (11) which has an overflow pipe (31). The displaced water passes via the overflow to a catch tank (33) on the balance weighing platform (12). The arrangement is capable of performing several successive measurements without the introduction of measurement errors requiring readjustment or calibration. The container consists of two interconnected parts (26,27) into one (26) of which the flow pipe protrudes upwards to just below its top. Two different length measurement electrodes (21,22) protrude downwards into this section (26).
