The device for automatic progressive cutting-out of cylinders in 4-stroke IC engines has a hydraulic pressure cylinder inserted between the inlet valve cam and pushrod of the cylinders in question. This pressure-cylinder (1-13) is free to slide in the pushrod guide (15) in the cylinder block and has inlet (2) and leakage (4) ports communicating with an oilway (14) through the block. It is constructed as a pump, pump and leakage capacity being so related that the working chamber (9) is kept filled with oil and the cylinder fully extended at full-load revolutions, compressing progressively as the revolutions drop.
