Refractory coke oven bricks consist of at least 99% pure quartz (SiO2). The bricks are cast in moulds or mfd with the aid of a binder. Coke oven performance is undiminished. The bricks resist temp changes and have a smooth surface. agglomeration and encrustation on brick surfaces are prevented. Frictional resistance on pressing the coke is reduced. The brick material used allows coke oven building out of pre- fabricated components, either having the same measurements, or forming an individual furnace wall or ceiling.
