In a method of removing surface fibres, e.g. wool, from animals or skins provision is made for freeing the fibres from the fibre-engaging means to facilitate collection of the fibres. A bar having teeth 5 is moved in an arcuate path from a starting position generally transverse to the length of the fibres whereby it moves generally longitudinally of the fibres until fibre fracture is achieved, whereupon the direction of movement is reversed to free the fibres. Alternatively the fibre-engaging means comprises toothed bars pivotally mounted within a rotating drum and projecting through slots in the drum to engage the fibres and withdrawing within the drum to release the fibres. <IMAGE> |
