Semi-continuous pressurised gasification of coal - using detachable reactors charged and emptied of slag at ambient pressure

Process and appts are claimed for the high-temp., high pressure gasification of coal or other hydrocarbon-contg material by reaction with a mixt of O2 and/or air with H2O and/or CO2. The feedstock is charged to a reactor at atmospheric pressure, which is then connected to a manifold and pressurised. After gasification is complete, the reactor is disconnected and depressurised and the residue, e.g. liquid slag, is discharged. Several reactors, if necessary transportable, may be connected to the same manifold. The exit line from the manifold may contain a reactor for a second stage of gasification, followed by another for gas purification. The discontinuous filling and emptying of the reactors avoids the difficulty of doing the same operation under pressure; yet the supply of prod gas from the manifold can be continuous.
