[Also in Division A5] An implant from which a drug is released at a constant rate comprises a medicament enclosed within a silicone rubber casing. It is made by placing a quantity of a silicone rubber adhesive 15 in each portion of a normal pharmaceutical telescopic capsule 11, 25, inserting a silicone rubber tube 19 into the "inner" capsule portion, filling it with the drug composition 21, closing the capsule so that the adhesive 15 forms a " cap " at each end of the tube 19 and allowing the adhesive to cure. The capsule may subsequently be removed from the implant or allowed to remain, especially if made of a water-soluble material e.g. gelatin. |
