March 14, 1966 [March 12, 1965], No. 11151/66 Heading F4B A vessel for holding molten metal, particularly for coating material by metal vapour deposition in a vacuum, comprises a container 10 of refractory material such as the nitrides of boron, silicon or aluminium, an inner insulating refractory shell 12a and an outer insulating refractory 12b separated by a layer 13 of compressible material such as aluminium-silicate fibres, pebbles or crushable shapes. The lower part 14 of the layer 13 may comprise granular material such as alumina powder. A metal casing 15 surrounds the outer shell 12b, which is spaced from it by a densely packed layer of powdered refractory such as alumina. |
