1,115,573. Expanded cellular rubber mouldings. VOLCREPE Ltd. 27 Feb., 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 9548/66. Heading B5A. Mouldings of expanded cellular rubber are made by incorporating into the rubber mix a high temperature blowing agent, i.e. one that reacts at least 20‹ C. above the vulcanizing temperature. The rubber mix is then vulcanized in a mould, removed from the mould and foamed by applying heat uniformly over the whole surface of the component (preferably in a fluidized bed). The rubber may be any natural or synthetic compound that can be vulcanized. The process may be used to form hollow tubes and complex shapes such as mouth and earpieces for communications equipment. The vulcanized moulded preforms may be stored before foaming. |
