Filled parallelepipedic containers formed from a tube of coated paper, plastics material or the like are conveyed past finishing units 3, 4, 5 by reciprocable plates 1, 2 having grooves 11, 12. These grooves are so shaped that the containers are engaged and advanced but are permitted to remain stationary when the plates return to their original position. Pivotal mounting of the plate 2 about a horizontal axis further ensures that there is no return movement of the containers. The plate 1 supports the plate 2 and is itself supported on rollers 8 for reciprocation by a rod 10. Feeding of the containers is facilitated by side walls 15 and by spring-urged plates 17. The first unit 3 presses end flaps of an interposed container, the second unit 4 provides adhesive and the third unit 5 presses the end flaps and dries the adhesive. The containers pass to a packaging unit.</p> |
