Colloidal concrete with expanded fillers for roof insulation - for a light, tough, non-combustible construction

A layer of low density colloidal concrete contg a filler comprising small expanded polystyrene beads is used to provide thermal and acoustic insulation between a conventional ceiling supported by beams and hollow panels of solid concrete and covered with a waterproof coating or membrane dressed with fine gravel or covered with paving. The colloidal concrete is relatively light and crack resistant for a non-flammable structural insulation material e.g. combining a relative density of about 0.4 with a coefft, 'K', of thermal insulation of about 0.5-0.7. The superficial paving may be of colloidal low density concrete filled with expanded clay.
