The fastening incorporates a permanent magnet (1) and consists of an active and a passive part, and is attached to the main part and flap of a handbag or similar article. The poles of the permanent magnet (1) are magnetically connected to ferromagnetic plates (2) which have locking parts (5). The permanent magnets (2) are fixed to the ferromagnetic plates. The remaining outer surfaces of the permanent magnets are surrounded by non-magnetic caps (3). Ferromagnetic plates (4) with locks are fixed to the other part of the bag, and brought into contact with the other pole surfaces of the permanent magnets (1). Pins (2A-4A) are positioned on the permanent magnets (1) for demagnetising.
