PURPOSE:To enhance the performances and reduce the manufacture cost of an alkaline battery by using metal cadmium made by a given substitution reaction as a plate, and omitting the formation of the plate which might be conducted before sealing the battery. CONSTITUTION:The negative plate of an alkaline battery is made of metal cadmium, which is produced by a substitution reaction. In the former substitution reaction, a solution containing cadmimu ions is added with a main participant of the reaction such as zinc powder or aluminum powder, as well as either nickel-oxide powder or nickel powder with an oxidized film on its surface to precipitate metal cadmium. The thus obtained foamed cadmium powder can be more easily pulverized than conventional ones. Accordingly, the reduction of discharge voltage after prolonged charging at a high temperature can be eliminated by the used of the spongelike cadmium powder for preparing the negative plate. |
