The engine has a sound absorbing enclosure (36,37). Cooling air is drawn in by a fan at the front of the engine. The air enters the side of the enclosure and flows forward to the fan through a chamber (41) round the cylinder head. It is blown back into a chamber (48) along the side of the engine and flows transversely across the cylinders (17). A second fan at the back of the engine draws secondary air through ejector passages (58) along the side of the enclosure. These alternate with main air passages from which they eject air so that it flows evenly along the length of the engine.
