PURPOSE:To widen the measurable range of the diameter of particles by shifting the diameter of photobeams applied to the particles to be measured into three levels. CONSTITUTION:The aero sol containing the particles to be measured is emitted from the tip of a nozzle into a light scattering space 8 and is irradiated by the photobeams 9 from a window 2. A beam-irraidiating system consists of a laser light source 10, a beam magnifier 11, a reflector 12 and a convergence lens 13. The scattered beams 14 from the particles is incided from a window 3 into a photoelectric detector 17 through the intermediary of a condensing optical system 15 and a slit 16 and the output signal therefrom is supplied to an indication device 20 after being processed 19. And, the parallel beams enter the space 8 as they are in the 1st mode where the magnifier 11 and the lens 13 are situated outside an optical path, while the parallel beams enter the space 8, being reduced, in the 2nd mode where the lens 13 alone is inserted in the optical path, and the parallel beams enter the space 8, being magnified, in the 3rd mode where the lens 13 and the magnifier 11 are inserted concurrently in the optical path. By the shifting of the beams from the 1st to the 3rd mode, the strength of the beams is increased and the measurement of the minute particles also becomes possible. |
