Cooling system for engine - has auxiliary volume equalising vessel to reduce size of high level separator

The engne has a cooling system (1) which includes the engine cooling jacket, a radiator and a circulating pump. Two pipes (2) from this system go to an air separator vessel (3) above the engine. A single pipe (6) runs from the separator vessel (3) to an auxiliary vessel (7) at a lower level. The pipe enters the auxiliary vessel through the bottom. The auxiliary vessel has a relief valve (8) which serves as a secondary filler cap. The separator vessel (3) is permanently full of water. The auxiliary vessel contains an air pocket (9) above a layer of water (10). Fluctuations in water volume are absorbed in the auxiliary vessel.
