Children on rear seats of vehicles, esp. cars, are prevented from opening doors from inside, in the normal way by a special type of lock. Devices acting on the safety mechanism so as to release the bolt, in the event of vehicle deceleration in excess of deceleration arising from a normal braking process. The force required for the release action may be applied by a deceleration dependent shifting of a metal ball (2), or other inert body, pref. acting on a rod linkage system (3,4,5) in the child safety mechanism effectively linked to the door lock (6). This ensures that escape is not barred in the event of an accident.
